Supportive Nestworks

I've seen and photographed wombats many times in Tasmania's wilderness but I haven't seen the Forty-spotted pardalote yet! It is one of Australia's rarest bird and the rarest of the pardalotes, only found in the south-east corner or Tasmania.   

Wombats are marsupials native to Tasmania and the mainland of Australia. They are herbivores. Female wombats give birth to a single young in the spring and the young leave the pouch after about six months. There's nothing cuter than seeing a baby wombat running! They're so cute. They are gentle animals and I try to capture that gentleness and calmness in my paintings of wombats. 

With this painting I decided to keep the focus on conversation, which is needed to keep raising awareness and support for those who are working to help our animals. This painting depicts a wombat having a visit with the rare and endangered Forty-spotted pardalote. Just like the tall nest is being supported to remain upright, these two are supporting each other during this time of crisis, with the wombats having mange to contend with and the Forty-spotted pardalote’s dwindling numbers, mainly due to land clearing.   

"Supportive Nestworks" is printed on 310gsm watercolour paper with archival inks by FullGamut, a Fine Art Printer in Hobart, Tasmania. No wonder so many people ask me if the print is an original because the colour and textured paper is of such high quality!
